Fed Gov Stephen Miran at WBUR CitySpace

Mehrotra Hosts Fed Reserve Gov Stephen Miran

It’s not every day that you get to ask questions of a Federal Reserve Board governor. On February 9, Questrom students and faculty were able to do just that. For a full day of events, we hosted Federal Reserve Board governor Stephen Miran, a Boston University alum.

Probably the highlight of the day was a live recording of our ‘Is Business Broken?’ podcast, during which WBUR host Curt Nickisch interviewed Governor Miran about all things Fed-related. Stay tuned for that episode.

“Hearing Governor Miran respond to pointed questions about the dollar, deregulation, and the debt was enlightening to say the least,” said Mehrotra Director Marcel Rindisbacher. “Providing students and the public with this kind of perspective is part of the community engagement we do here at Mehrotra,” he added.

Later, Governor Miran spoke with BU Econ professor Tarek Hassan in a live-streamed event with almost 200 Questrom students. This was a fireside chat that focused on Governor Miran’s career trajectory, leadership, and perspectives on current economic and financial issues.

“We made the most of Governor Miran’s visit by organizing several different event forums for students as well as the public. This is exactly the kind of cross-sector conversation that Mehrotra is fostering,” said Mehrotra Executive Director Kris May.

The day began with an intimate lunch with President Gilliam, faculty, and top students from across the university. Students were able to ask questions about career paths, markets, policy, and other topics relevant to Governor Miran’s experience.

“Being able to sit down at the same table with a Federal Reserve governor was both exciting and daunting,” said Grant Corbett, a Questrom student. “Knowing he was a BU alum helped lower the stakes.”
